The Phi Mu house at 250 South Milledge Avenue in Athens, Georgia has a long and distinguished history. Designated as a historic landmark in 1991, this Greek Revival home was built in 1858 for Thomas Napier Hamilton, who is said to have been Georgia’s first millionaire. The house was then passed down through the hands of many notable Athenians until it was sold in 1964 to UGA’s first sorority - Phi Mu. Additions were made to the house, including new wings as well as the curved double set of entrance stairs. This added to the house’s already considerable grandeur. Since then, the Phi Mu house has received the utmost care, contributing to the historic tradition of Athens, Georgia.
